ABOUT US

Hi-Tech Mag repairs run a specialised business in Alrode South dedicated to the repairing of aluminium
and magnesium wheels. It is an enormously expanding industry and the demand for this is growing daily
specifically to the escalating cost of new mags.

Most vehicles have aluminium wheels and yes, they do bend, buckle or break on impact ( i.e.: hitting
a pavement or driving through a pot hole). Repairing these wheels is an alternative to replacing them.

Louis Botha started Hi- Tech in his garage over 15 years ago, what started out as a repairing mags
for friends has grown into an expanding family business. From doing about 260 wheels a month back
in 1989, to approximately 2500 wheels a month in 2005, we are certainly growing fast.
From mags that are slightly off balance to mags that have chunks missing and need to be redished
we have done them all. All wheels are checked to see exactly what needs to be done, wheels with
buckles in the back or are out of round, generally need only to be straightened out.

Wheels that have collided with a pavement or gone through a pot hole usually need a bit more work.
While we do fix most wheels some wheels are beyond repair and get scrapped. All wheels that need
to be refurbished first have all the old paint removed and then get straightened out. The deep scratches
get welded closed, any excess welding is then taken off and the wheels get filed down, all rough edges
are then smoothed off. By now you have a wheel that is round again, but doesn't look very good. If you
are having your wheels re sprayed they will go off to the paint shop, where they will be prepared and
sprayed to perfection, with the colour you choose (Black Chrome, Brilliant silver, Standard Silver or any
colour for that matter.) If however you want them to have the chrome look the will go upstairs to be
polished, by our polishing team, dedicated to make a masterpiece out of every wheel.

We decided to apply for AA Quality Assured accreditation in 1999 after receiving a huge amount of
wheels from customers that had been repaired elsewhere. The final result on these wheels were absolutely
shocking with most of them being scrapped due to the fact that they were not repaired properly, welded poorly
or machined paper thin, which could result in the wheel falling apart at the slightest impact. Going into
this blindly we soon realised that our reputation alone was not going to get us approved. The first problem
being that there was no category for mag wheel repairers. After about 2 years and meticulous inspection by the
AA Quality Assured Team and many changes on our side, a category was created and we were approved,
thus enabling us to pass on the peace of mind to our customers that we have when repairing a mag wheel.

We also hold a one year warranty on all mag wheel repairs. Obviously this does not include you driving
out our workshop and hitting another pothole or having the pavement jump out at you in a parking lot.
